Have you heard the joke about the lost data?

Accessories, Lenovo

Being paranoid has it’s benefits: –

  • You’re always prepared for when the men in the black helicopters come to get you at 3am
  • You never trust the emails from the widow of the late DR JOHNSTON MTABE, the Scottish chiropodist, who amassed a £101m fortune which is currently locked in a bank in Nigeria, requiring your assistance
  • And you never. lose. data.

Data loss - or worse, theft – is something many small businesses don’t think about until it happens, by which time, it’s already too late.

Scenario

Imagine you’re on an important business trip and, horror of horrors, your laptop gets stolen on the train, along with all the sensitive commercial data that was stored on your external hard drive.

Your palms get sweaty. Your mouth goes dry. Your world starts to crumble around you.

Now imagine the same situation, but that the data on the external drive was protected by 128bit AES encryption, and required a code to be entered on the built-in keypad before it will even function.

Alright, you still have the inconvenience of the lost drive, but at least your data will be inaccessible to the thieves.

Solution

The Lenovo Thinkpad Secure Hard Drive is a handy little device which could very well save your bacon. It comes in two flavours: 160GB and 320GB priced at £108 and £148 respectively. It doesn’t beep, it doesn’t flash, and it doesn’t say “Access granted” in a sexy female voice, but it could save you a world of pain.

If you want all the gory specs, have a look at the Lenovo website. In the meantime, does anyone want to share their funniest data-loss experiences? I didn’t think so…

looks like a great bit of kit, pitty they didn’t sex it up a bit!!!

Can you or anyone recommend any password protection for standard usb pen drives????

Luckily I have never lost any data, but as you say, I’m pretty certain I’d get that deep sinking feeling inside when i checked my pocket and found my pendrive, with lots of documents and passwords were missing.
