DELL OPTIPLEX 760 - BUSINESS WORKHORSE IN 4 FORM FACTORS
A range of business desktop computers from Dell, priced in a straightforward manner and offering a good balance of power / cost.
The OptiPlex range has been around for a long time, and is well established on the business desktop scene as being a suitably specified machine for the average business user, offering good reliability and being easy on the eye AND the balance sheet.
The OptiPlex 760 range doesn’t appear to be any different, coming in 4 different form factors (desktop, mini-tower, small and ultra-small), and with a range of processors from a lowly Intel dual-core E2200 (2.2Ghz) to a rather more beefy Core2 Duo E8400 (3Ghz), and with the top of the range model starting at £609 (excl. VAT), it shouldn’t put the company accounts into the red, even in the current financial upheaval.
The pricing appears to favour the two higher-end models, as compared to the lowest model, they come equipped with a substantially better processor; double the memory; double the storage space and - crucially - a 19″ widescreen LCD monitor, all for around £200 over the entry-level price.
£200 is a small premium to pay for keeping Gary in Marketing from complaining every 5 minutes that his “Outlook is running too slow” and that his “hard drive needs more gigahertz”. But some people will do anything for a quiet life.
All in all, the OptiPlex 760 range is well-balanced and fairly priced, and, unless you’re really looking for a budget desktop, I see no reason not to go for the small-form factor model. As always, take a look at the Dell OptiPlex 760 site to get the full details and any special offers they may have running.
