Dell To Enter Smartphone Fray?

Dell, General, News

Smart Tech

Rumours are flying that a new smartphone will be launched in the very near future.

It would seem that Dell has had it’s tech development teams working on a handset for over a year now, and may be getting ready to push out a range of devices, based around touch-screens and slide-out keyboards.

In order to stand any chance of competing in this market, however - with wifi, gps and 3g capability coming as standard nowadays - the real differentiator will be the platform on which it runs.

My sources tell me that the smart money says that the handset will be built to run Google’s much-fanfared Android OS.

In my opinion, the pairing of the tech brand status and market power of Dell with the tech capabilities of Google make this a pretty strong team, and is definitely one to look out for.

I’d keep my eyes open for some kind of device from Dell coming pre-loaded with lots of Google goodies, such as Chrome and Google Maps.

No Accounting For Taste

On the other hand, if you’re of the Blackberry persuasion, Orange have now started offering a payg Pearl  8120 model which works with their pre-pay data bundles. The website doesn’t offer any more info yet, but I’m assured that it is coming soon.

Keep checking back for more info on the Dell handset, I’ll post links and the all-important photos when they’re leaked…
